The statutory labelling requirements for hazardous substances and their preparations, for different stages of their manufacture and use, for example the use, storage, filling, mixing, transporting, loading and processing. Mandatory are also the type of identification in respect on label formats, hazard symbols and designations, risk notes (R-rates) and safety tips (S-rates). For the dimensions of the identification labels apply following formats: up 3 liters to the format 2.05 x 2.91 inch (52 mm x 74 mm) DIN A8, of more than 3 liters up to 50 liters the format 2.91 x 4.13 inch (74 mm x 105 mm) DIN A7, of more than 50 litres up to 500 litres the format 4.13 x 5.83 inch (105 mm x 148 mm) DIN A6, above 500 litres the format 5.83 x 8.27 inch (148 mm x 210 mm) DIN A5. The legal basis for this is since 1986 an EG-directive and the resulting and the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances (GefStoffV).
